Deal With Drug Use

People repeatedly use many dependent drugs that have nothing to do with medical purposes. Once dependence occurs, they will uncontrollably and constantly pursue medications to feel the mental stimulation of drugs on the body. Here are 5 ways to prevent drug abuse.

1. Deal with life pressures. People today are overtired and overwhelmed and often feel they deserve a good rest or a reward. But at the end of the day, drugs just make life more stressful -- something many of us often don't realize right now. To prevent drug use as a reward, find other ways to deal with stress and relax. Start exercising, read a good book, volunteer for someone in need, create something. Anything cheerful and relaxing will help keep the mind away from using drugs to relieve stress.

2. Respond effectively to peer pressure. The biggest reason teens start using illegal drugs is because their friends use peer pressure. No one likes to be left out, and teens (and, yes, some adults) find themselves doing things they wouldn't normally do, just to fit in. In these cases, you need to find a group of better friends who won't force you to do harmful things, or you need to find an excellent way to say no. Teens should have an excuse or plan ready in advance to avoid tempting situations.

3. Examine each risk factor. You are more likely to overcome the biological, environmental, and physical risk factors if you know the biological, environmental, and physical risk factors. A family history of substance abuse, living in a social environment that glorifies substance abuse, and/or family life that mimics substance abuse may be risk factors.

4. Seek help for mental illness. Mental illness and substance abuse often go hand in hand. People with mental illness may turn to medication to relieve pain. People with some form of mental health disorder, such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder, should seek the help of a trained professional for treatment before leading to substance use.

5. Live a balanced life. People use drugs when something isn't working in their life or when they're not happy with their life or where it's going. Look at the big picture of life and prioritize your priorities.

  1. This article is very informative about the environmental factors that can lead a person to substance abuse. Many people discuss the health/physical factors that lead to an addiction, such as the addictive properties of these drugs, but there is definitely an importance in the social factors of one's life that can influence someone into doing drugs, such as stress and peer pressure, as you mentioned. This article does well in discussing such factors and how to prevent them from leading you to substance abuse.

    1. I know many people who abuse drugs for no reason of their own. Sometimes, the impact of environmental factors may be far beyond our imagination.

  2. Going into the multivariable causes of drug addiction is well done in this blog, and is important because every person with addiction has their own story. Social and life pressures are both huge causes for the beginning of addiction, as pressure from peers and family alike can cause someone to turn towards substances. Another cause of substance abuse does come from other places, such as those who get addicted to opioids through means such as over prescription from a doctor.

    1. Every substance abuser may have their own unique story. This is why drug abuse is so difficult to treat. Not only do we have to physically relieve them of their drug dependence, but we also have to heal them spiritually. This prevents them from falling back into substance abuse troubles.

  3. This blog is very helpful to let us know the causes of the addiction to drugs and help us to avoid it. Many reasons can cause addiction, most of which are related to people's mental health. Drugs can relieve people from pressure of the real life and bring them happiness. The most useful way to avoid addiction is to clearly realize the danger of drugs. Only when you understand the danger of your choice can you think twice to decide.

  4. I think that this blog is really helpful for those who are wither struggling with substance abuse or do not know much about it. As college students, we are especially susceptible to potential substance abuse issues. It is extremely beneficial for us to be aware of the risks, as well as having the conversation about substance abuse. Unfortunately, it is easier for people to default to substance abuse rather than seeking help when they have poor mental health. Overall, I think that this is an incredibly important blog that would be helpful to many young adults.

    1. I wrote this blog specifically because people are not alert to substance abuse. We need to make as many people as possible aware of the adverse effects of substance abuse. These effects can continue to affect a person's life.
